OUR UNDER 14 BMBA BOYS SHOW WHAT IS POSSIBLE

BMBA Basketball Academy | Junior Basketball Training Melbourne

Our Under 14 BMBA boys are demonstrating this year what is possible for BMBA participants and players. The majority of the boys have been with the BMBA for well over two years and have been playing together in domestic competitions, participating in tournaments and developing their skills through our BMBA basketball training sessions. Due to our structured sessions which ensure continuous progression and development in player skills and game knowledge, week on week, term on term,  season on season, year on year.

To ensure that development, the BMBA has a legitimate basketball program that our coaches all work from. If your child has just started with the BMBA then they have already started their journey in that Basketball development program with out already knowing it. The same journey our Under-14 boys started with.

Those Under 14 boys are now starting to see the benefits of that program. In the past twelve months the boys have begun participating in the challenging Dandenong Basketball Association competitions, played in two and soon to be three tournaments, have enjoyed establishing our own Under 14 intra club games at Stonnington, have two of their number becoming both coaches and referees and also have players within their ranks beating our skills challenges or on the verge of doing so.

Just as important as their skills development is their team development, and the boys have really started to shine in this area in 2026, with dramatically improved performances on the court. Despite being undermanned and undersized since we resumed in 2026, the boys have competed hard in their domestic games at Dandenong, losing by small margins against much larger teams. In all of those losses, the boys could have easily won them all. In between those Dandenong games, the boys played in the Eltham Dandenong Tournament and the South East Junior Basketball tournament. Importantly in these tournaments, the boys were playing in their correct age group. In both tournaments, the boys performed admirably.

In the Eltham Dandenong tournament, the boys played five games and led in all five games, despite only winning one. That one win, though, was against an Altona Rep team that they demolished by 20 points. That win, and their performances throughout the tournament, built confidence and, more importantly, belief amongst the boys. That belief led to two amazing efforts by the boys. In the South East Junior Basketball, the boys started hot out of the gates, winning their first game and didn’t look back, winning all four of their group games in emphatic fashion. Sadly, we got ahead of ourselves and lost the semi-final against a team that they would defeat nine out of ten times. For the boys, though this was their first taste of finals since coming together, it once again helped build belief amongst the boys as to what they are capable of, which led to their next amazing result.

In their last game of the summer season at Dandenong, the boys faced off against the undefeated top of the ladder team, who had defeated our boys by 20+ points the last time that we had played them. Our boys went into that game confident, despite only having six players and led it from start to finish to cause a massive upset to end their domestic season.

The boys will now move on to their next challenge when they enter the Dandenong Basketball Association’s elite A-grade competition. They will also be participating in their third tournament over the King’s birthday weekend.

The boys have continued to improve every week, and now they’re seeing some real results from that work. This is a great example for all our BMBA participants as they begin on the same journey of development as the Under 14 Boys have engaged in. It is our ambition to add an Under 10 Boys team, an Under 12 Boys team and a girls teams to join our Under 14 Boys in the Dandenong Basketball Association’s competitions from their Summer season, which commences in Term 4 of this year.

Will your son/daughter be ready for that challenge?
