I established the BMBA for several purposes.
First and foremost was my desire to develop the abilities, skill levels and basketball IQ of as many junior participants who wished to reach their potential in the sport of basketball. At the same time, I want to provide them with a fulfilling and positive environment to not only participate in the sport, but to mentor them to be positive individuals within our society.
Secondly, we want to identify the more committed players with above-average ability so we can provide opportunities for them to advance to an elite level of competition.
Third, we want to help educate and train coaches so they have the tools to be the best coach that they can be for their players.
Fourth we want to provide competitions and programs that not only “build better players but mentor better people.”.
In doing all of this, we intend to provide a program of excellence that will serve everybody while also attracting players with serious ambitions and goals. Whatever their standard, we want to deliver a program that develops our player’s skills and abilities and knowledge of the game.
Ultimately, for the keener participants, this program will also be providing the opportunity for players to travel throughout the country and for the extra keen to even travel overseas on basketball tours.
It is our desire to make the BMBA one of the most exciting undertakings in basketball and sport more generally.
In 35 years in the sport of basketball, I have started two Associations from the ground up, successfully coached teams to the states highest grade, performed administrative duties to mange those competitions, brought people together to meet governance requirements and mastered marketing strategies to grow participant numbers.
I have also run and managed my own business throughout these years to allow me to achieve the above.
I’ve been through most things that any business owner can be put through when I built and managed two significant sports associations.
This, combined with creating and operating the BMBA has given me the people and business skills you need to obtain to be successful in the venture I have outlined in this business plan.
Through my time in the sport, I have also coached at every level you could imagine, from absolute beginner to the elite level. This has been invaluable in helping me to develop unique concepts for basketball training programs and competitions.
The knowledge I have built in my 35 years in the sport has me perfectly placed to build a membership of both junior and open-age participants that will ensure any stadium development can be developed to it’s fullest potential.
That potential will cover participants, training programs, competitions and most importantly the generation of the required turnover of revenue to make the stadium financially viable.
Through my sports management career as an administrator and a manager of two sizable basketball associations, I have acquired the business acumen to ensure I can manage any stadium and competition development outlined in this business plan.
My experience as both a basketball coach and sports administrator along with my interaction with literally thousands of people who have participated in the sport provides me with a unique insight into what a basketball demographic would be attracted to.
I have had the enormous privilege of coaching literally thousands of basketball players of all ages and standards both male and female in my time in the sport. As far as I am aware I am the only coach who has coached at the highest level of the sport while also continuing to develop, administer and coach at the very beginner and domestic levels of the sport.

I am enormously proud of all the players I have coached in my time in basketball, whatever their standard, but those who have chosen to make the commitment to be able to play at the elite level have a special place amongst my proteges list and I take particular pride in those who have gone on to play at the professional level, knowing that I played a part in their journey to that level.
Those three players are listed below with many more playing at the NBL1 and BIG V levels of the sport, which is also an outstanding achievement by those players.
One of the most important initiatives and concepts that we are building within the BMBA is our “Christianity Through Hoops” basketball program. Through this program, we intend to bring kids from Christian backgrounds and denominations together through the sport of basketball. We are not doing this to push religious dogma upon them, but to let them realise that they are not alone, to allow them to create new friendships and bonds, all while receiving wonderful training and development in the sport and to do all this in a positive Christian environment.
In these modern days of social media and internet communication, it can be tough and lonely at times to be a Christian, especially as a youngster.
In American sports its common for teams and coaches to say the Lord’s prayer or a team prayer before and after games. It is our ambition to embed something as simple as this as a feature of the BMBA program to encourage our kids to embrace their faith, not just at home, not just at school at church, but as Jesus himself did, in the wider community. The program will be open to all players and their families, including non-Christian ones who may not share our faith but are attracted to the principles of the teachings of Christ.
