The BMBA invitational will be an exciting new junior basketball competition format that has an entire focus on player and team development. Six team groups will be formed and initially, competitions will be played across a school term. The intention is to grow this across a two-term season as more teams enter.
To begin with, our one-term format will include six teams playing each other in a round-robin format where every team plays each other at least once. While these games will have a scoreboard and a team that wins and a team that loses, no ladders will be kept. The entire purpose of these lead-up round-robin games is the development of players. We want coaches to be focused on development and not winning.
In this format having your players try something new in game conditions whether it be a new dribble, a shot attempt or running a play will not impact on your team whether you win or lose.
Instead, coaches will be encouraged to use these games to develop and educate their players for an end of term round robin tournament, where over two weekends the same teams will play in competitive games where ladders will be kept and the top two teams will play off in a grand final to crown that term/season champions.
Ultimately, our preference is for a two-term season, where teams will play each other across fifteen rounds and then participate in an end-of-season round-robin tournament.
BMBA Invitational
Central Districts Representative
This competition will be conducted on Friday nights starting at 6:00 pm. It is designed to
provide an alternative for rep teams that cannot play in the Victorian Junior League
competitions or would simply prefer an option that doesn’t require the same travel. It will
involve the following age groups for both boy’s and girl’s competitions.
BMBA Invitational
Elite Division
This competition is in effect the same as the “Central Districts Representative” competition, except it will be played on Saturday afternoons commencing at 4:00 pm and will
provide for the most eager of players and teams the opportunity to play with their mates
in one domestic competition and then another game with more features and a format
which will deliver a higher standard through the BMBA invitational at Stonnington Sports
Centre
BMBA Invitational
Domestic Division
We are also determined to provide games and competitions that will also embed many of
the features offered in the above two competitions. This competition will be made available to teams not confident enough or not ready to enter the above competitions.
They will still provide longer game times, shot clocks and a development focus with
unique competition formats.
