Once we enter into 2026, the BMBA will be entering an agreement that will see it using six courts at three different venues within the Stonnington LGA. The cost of this court hire is significant with court hire costs in 2025 anticipated to reached $90,000 per annum and rising in 2026 to a minimum of $120,000 per annum. Initially, we will run at a loss as we build up our junior participant numbers throughout 2025.
At the completion of 2025, it is anticipated that all our courts will be running at full capacity. At this point we will then start to see significant profit margins being delivered throughout 2026. To achieve this goal we need to cover court hire and associated costs throughout 2025.
To achieve the participation numbers to meet the above objectives, we are looking at three ways to market our training programs, basketball competitions and holiday camps to households and businesses within the Stonnington LGA and surrounding suburbs. These are: –
⇒ Social media advertising through Google ads and Meta ads.
⇒ Letterbox flyer delivery to every household within the City of Stonnington and surrounding suburbs.
⇒ Flyer delivery through every school for each student within the City of Stonnington and surrounding suburbs.
None of these methods is cheap, but they will ensure we attract enough participants to fill the spaces in the venues that will be operating out of in the City of Stonnington.
To put in place our coaching programs and competitions will require staff in coaches, referees and administrators along with development officers to conduct our school clinics for primary school students.
All of the above represent significant setup costs, which is why we require investors. The financial rewards though when we establish the BMBA throughout our Stonnington venues though will be significant. This will take approximately twelve months to achieve. At that point, we will be generating a turnover of over one million dollars per year, while enjoying a $300,000.00 to $500,000.00 profit. To achieve this, our goal is to secure a minimum of one hundred $1,000.00 business sponsor investors to assist us t cover the expenditure we will need to get to that point.
The BMBA has some amazing plans and ambitions for juniors and the sport of basketball. This includes spreading its feeder demographic across the Central East and Bayside suburbs of Melbourne.

While we love our player development, we are also passionate about building junior competitions with new concepts and structure. These competitions will be established at three levels. A regular domestic competition, and more elite domestic competition and a representative competition. All of these competitions will provide more court time, better coaching, more development, better officiating and exciting competition features for all of our junior players. Click on the button and flyer images below for more information about these competitions.
At the BMBA we are big believers in the African proverb “It takes a tribe to raise a child. In consideration of this we regularly conduct events to bring our community together for the greater good. In doing so we hope to mentor the juniors within our ranks to not just better basketballers but better people and citizens as they transition into adulthood.
Court hire, especially at Council owned venues, isn't cheap. While we develop and build our junior membership numbers to our venues capacity we need to ensure we maintain our payments for both venue and court hire. Your investment will ensure we will be able to do that.
Social Media Marketing can be expensive, but its a vital tool for us to grow our numbers to ensure we reach our venues capacity. We have the venues, we have fantastic basketball products through our training programs and innovative competition, all we need to do is attract eyes to them to increase awareness and registrations. This is a crucial tool towards achieving all of that.
We also wish to engage in marketing through mailbox delivery. Stonnington LGA has over 60,000 residence and 20,000 businesses and we want to ensure we get to send our material to all of them.
If we can do this along with our social media marketing, it wont be too long before we are our venue capacity and generating profits.
As we build to forming our competitions we will need to recruit, train and employ casual staff in coaches, referees and game day staff such as venue administrators.
We will have higher expenses than others in this regard as we will be employing coaches for each of our teams to ensure the highest standards possible.
We will also need office and development staff as we progress and increase our numbers. a bookkepper/administrator will be crucial along with a schools development officer. These will be casual positions to begin with, but as our numbers grow they will evolve into more permanent roles.
To conduct basketball competitions we will need things such as basketball, laptops for scoreboards, signage. possession arrows, first aid kits and more.
By the middle of 2026 we will be needing this equipment across six courts. That's a significant investment.
The BMBA has visited over 25 schools and conducted FREE basketball clinics for over 5,000 students since COVID-19 restrictions eased and then lifted. These clinics not only help to promote the BMBA but have been a great initiative to get our kids off their screens and back into sport after COVID-19. These clinics have been tremendously well received and the program is something your investment would ensure continues into the future.
Bob has been involved in basketball since 1990 and in the IT industry since 1988. Through that time, Bob has built two Associations from the ground up, both of which grew to be the equivalent of a medium-sized company. The two Associations grew to such a size that they both employed numerous staff while serving thousands of families. Through that time Bob devised strategies through his IT strategies to build websites, conduct email campaigns and build social media platforms. In 2016 Bob founded his basketball academy where he could focus his efforts on training and developing juniors and building competitions.
He also branched out to provide services to other businesses in 2019 just before COVID-19 hit our shores he started the Community Forum Online newspaper.
Throughout the COVID-19 period, Bob chose to put this part of his business into hibernation while he rebuilt his basketball academy again once COVID restrictions began to lift. Now that he has secured court access at the magnificent Stonnington Sports Centre Bob is now in a position to take the BMBA on a similar journey.
