1. – LONGER GAMES TIMES
All of our competitions will be offering longer game times for payers and teams. Our domestic competition will have a sixty-minute schedule comprised of two twenty-minute halves with clock stoppages for time-outs. The clock will also stop for all whistles in the last minute of the first half and all whistles for the last three minutes of the second half.
For our elite competitions we will be providing fully timed 4 x 10 minute quarters.
More court time, for players and teams to develop, more court time for coaches to provide their players each and every week.
2. – UNIQUE SEASON STRUCTURE
Our emphasis in-season will always be to promote the development of players. To achieve this all our in-season matches will not count towards a ladder. There will still be a scoreboard kept and winners and losers for every match, but during the season we will be encouraging teams to focus on the development of their players and teams.
The reason we can do this is because EVERY team will qualify for our end-of-season finals tournament. Instead of a regular finals series, we will be conducting a tournament where every team gets to enter. It is in this tournament where wins will go towards teams ultimately qualifying for a Grand-Final playoff.
Coaches and teams that embrace this format the best during the season, when development is a priority, will have the best chance of success in our end of season tournament.
3. – SHOT CLOCK IN USE FOR ALL GAMES
Another unique feature will be the use of shot clocks in all of our matches. All courts at Stonnington Sports Centre are equipped with shot clocks, so we are going to use them to add some excitement to our games.
Junior players and referees don’t normally have the opportunity to pay with shot clocks except at the highest levels.
That changes now through the BMBA invitational.
4. – A GREAT STATE OF THE ART VENUE

The Stonnington Sports Centre is a new State-of-the-art stadium. It will act as our headquarter venue. The courts have outstanding playing floor surfaces and are equipped with the outstanding ringleader boardboards and ring systems.
Every court is outfitted with Bluevane scoreboards and shot clocks and the stadium is equipped with magnificent changerooms and toilet facilities along with a modern canteen area, Positioned in an outstanding location the venue is simply outstanding.
5. – A DEVELOPMENT INTO COMPETITION FOCUS
As outlined above in our season structure, the BMBA invitational competitions will be introducing a never- seen-before development component into our competition format.
Our seasons will have up to fifteen in-season games where the focus will be on development before entering the tournament stage of the season, where the focus moves in competition.
WE ARE VERY EXCITED BY
THIS NEW FORMAT
6. – UNIQUE COMPETITION FOR BOTH ELITE AND DOMESTIC TEAMS
This competition will be played on Saturday afternoons and evenings, this competition is designed for higher standard teams where players are looking for a second game after their normal domestic game. With longer court times, shot clocks and unique rules and structures this will be a GREAT competition to be a part of.
Our Friday night Central Districts competition is designed to provide rep standard competition for teams from Rep clubs, basketball academies, domestic clubs and school programs. The competition will provide the same features as our Elite Saturday BMBA invitational competitions. Play Rep standard basketball WITHOUT THE TRAVEL!
We will also be providing competitions for teams not at the rep or elite level through our domestic competitions. Comprising many of the features of the elite divisions of the BMBA invitational, our domestic competitions will be offered on both a Friday evening/night and a Saturday afternoon/evening.
7. – BRING YOUR BEST TEAMS
Unlike most other competitions we will NOT be implementing a points system for rep players in your teams. The only requirement will be for all teams which contain representative players who play between the grades of Victorian Championships and VJL2 to play in our elite competitions and not our domestic ones.
8. – SEASON PRIZES
Even though we will be embedding a development focus into our in-season matches, once it’s tournament time, we will be providing incentives for teams and clubs to win championships.
Prizes will go to each champion team for each competition. We will also be recognising the club/program that wins the most championships and we will also awarding an overall club champion on both the boys and girls sides.
9. – BECOME AN ORIGINAL AND ENJOY THE BENEFITS
We are providing an amazing incentive for clubs to join our competitions by introducing a “Shares” offer.
To begin to establish competitions we need a minimum of four teams in each age group across both boys and girls competition.
So to encourage this the first five clubs/programs to enter one team in each age group across boys and girls in a dedicated competition through the BMBA will be provided a with a share off for a stake in BMBA Basketball Pty Ltd through their registration and season fees from their first season with the BMBA.
That’s effectively securing a significant amounts of shares in BMBA Basketball Pty Ltd for zero dollars. Iy will also ensure that your club/program will secure a seat on our advisory committee to provide you with a voice and input into how we develop and administer our competitions and programs.
This offer will only be available for a limited period, so take advantage of this while you can.
10. – JOIN OUR COMPETITIONS AT ANY TIME
Due to our development focus in-season, we are in a position to accept team entries at any time. This will be able to happen until we reach our court capacity.
So if you are busy getting your current domestic seasons started but still would like to arrange some teams for our competitions, don’t stress we will accept teams at any time,
