2026 JUNIOR BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS
We enjoyed three successful Tournament competitions in 2024. In 2025 we didn’t enter any tournaments, but I would like to once more look at tournaments for our Under 14 boys in 2026. Tournaments are a great way to build camaraderie amongst both the boys and their parents. It’s also a great way to reinforce offensive and defensive structures that we are teaching throughout the year
Below is a list of tournaments that we can enter teams into throughout 2026. These tournaments aren’t compulsory, but they are a great way for players, coaches and parents to bond. It’s also a great way for teams and individuals to improve their game in a short period.
We would need a minimum of seven players who are at a tournament standard to enter into these tournaments. If you are interested in any of these tournaments then please send me an email ( bob_mann@bmba.net.au ) as soon as possible, so I can build a list to consider the entry of a team.
Eltham Dandenong Junior Basketball Tournament
January 23rd to 26tth.
The Eltham Dandenong Junior Basketball tournament is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s a great way to get back into the basketball rhythm after the January Holiday period. There is a team registration fee of $100.00 for each team and then each player is required to pay $75.00 when they register with their team.
This tournament is a great way to build camraderie and put in place offensive and defensive structures we have been teaching in a condensed period.

South East Junior Basketball Tournament
March 7th to 9th.
The next tournament is the South East Junior Basketball Tournament on the Labour Day weekend, . The cost for each team is $575.00 which is divided amongst tournament participants.
This is a more local tournament, where we get to play our games at both Sandringham and Waverley venues and provides both representative and domestic competitions.

Adelaide Easter Classic Junior Basketball Tournament
April 3rd to 6th
For team bonding for both players and parents, the Adelaide tournament is top of the list. The kids and teams get to play in venues they’ve never seen before against interstate and Melbourne Clubs.
The city of Adelaide is absolutely beautiful with some great sightseeing available which includes famous wineries.
We have participated in this tournament several times, we have enjoyed a lot of success and more importantly, had a great time on each occasion.
The downside is there is a lot of planning required for travel and accommodation, so the sooner a decision is made to enter a team, the better.
The team fee for the 2024 tournament is $630. This team fee admits all players, spectators, coaches, assistant coaches and team managers to every stadium.

Ballarat Junior Basketball Tournament
June 6th, 7th & 8th
Another great tournament for bonding purposes and some great basketball is the Ballarat Junior Basketball Tournament held over the King’s birthday weekend.
Like Adelaide, Ballarat is a beautiful country municipality with a lot of history to see. It has great cafes and pubs, so there are plenty of things to do between games for parents and players alike, and Ballarat is not a long drive from Melbourne.
We have also participated in the Ballarat tournament a number of times and enjoyed success there.
Accommodation can be tight on that long weekend, so the sooner a team decides to enter, the better.

Nunawading Junior Basketball Tournament
June 6th, to June 8th
Another tournament over the Kings Birthday weekend is the Nunawading Junior Basketball tournament.
This is quite a large tournament held across venues in the Eastern and North-Eastern suburbs.
Out of all the tournaments we have found in the past this tournament to be the worst for administration and officiating.
Also, because you can play across a number of venues over the three days, you can end up travelling more than the Ballarat tournament.
The tournament website still hasn’t been updated for 2026 but you can still have a look to get some idea about this event.
